Google announced its Pixel Buds 2 wireless earbuds in New York City a few days ago, along with Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, Pixelbook Go, Nest Wi-Fi, and Nest Mini – check out Google Store. Missed the unveiling? Here you have to know Google’s first proper Apple AirPods rival, what new features it includes, how much it costs, and when it will hit the market.
Pixel Buds 2 is familiar with the original wired versions but has become smarter now. Not only are they true wireless earbuds, but both earbuds act as primary. This means that you can use one of those single Bluetooth headsets i.e Calls. You can also control music playback and volume with one of them. The Pixel Buds 2 will cost $179 (13K Approx) when they come out in the market.

Controls are good and comfortable. Swipe backward and forward for volume, tap and pause to play, tap twice to skip forward and three times to skip back. You can long-press to activate Google Assistant, but Pixel Buds 2 is always listening for hot words so there is no real reason for it. Buds are automatically detected when they are in your ear, so your music will stop when you remove them.
How about you feel?
The case and buds have a lovely matte feel, like a pixel backing. The color options are also great with cleavage white, almost black, quint mint and oh so orange options. The Pixel Buds 2 case has the same color accent around the lid as Pixel phones do in their frame. Pixels Buds 2 are sweat and water-resistant.
The box includes silicone ear tips of various sizes. The default ones are a good and tight fit. If your ears are less organized then you still have no problem getting the right fit for your ear. Small wingtip stabilizers secure them to your ear and they slot correctly. This will help the isolation as well as a little more secure.
Features – Google Pixelbuds 2
In terms of voice assistant, Pixel Buds has Siri and Google Assistant respectively, and we are familiar with the qualities of those voice assistants. Of more interest is the real-time translation of pixel buds. On the original buds, it only worked in a limited capacity – if the new iteration depended on Google’s claims, Pixel Buds would be able to take live speech and translate the fly, making it easier to understand various languages.
Google has already made bold claims about Pixel Buds in this regard, claiming that they are able to maintain a connection to three rooms and stay connected for the length of a football field. As always, we will wait and see.
The 12mm drivers amplify audio and accelerometer in-call speech when your jawbone is vibrating. The two beamforming mixes in each earbud help separate your voice against background noise and ambient interference. Surrounding of the buds allow you to be aware of what is going on around you.
If your phone is on Android Nougat or above, you will be able to enjoy some additional features that iPhone owners do not get. For example, upcoming live translation feature or adaptive sound. Google says that it will bring more AI features to Pixel Buds 2 later, and will keep updating what the assistant can do overtime.
