Shipments in India reached 158 million in 2019 with a 7% year-on-year increase. This is due to the growth of the mid-tier segment in India where Chinese brands aggressively introduced many key-grade features and capabilities in smartphones. The market scenario was also governed by Chinese players, with four Chinese companies in the top 5. With many small surprises, the share of Chinese brands jumped to 72% in 2019 compared to 60% a year earlier. At number 4, Realme – 2109 is the fastest-growing smartphone brand. The company’s market share increased from 3% in 2018 to 10% in 2019, an increase of 255%.
According to Counterpoint Market Monitor, Oppo is the fifth largest smartphone company in India during the year 2019. The third company of China’s BBK Group has a 9% market share in the Indian market. The company grew by an impressive 28% during the year.
